My Pet Just Died and I Don't Know What to Do
That's exactly why I'm here. You don't need to figure anything out. Just call me. I'll walk you through every step - From this moment until your best friend comes home. You'll never be left wondering what happens next.
A Few Gentle Things You Can Do Right Now
Caring for Your Pet Until I Arrive
First, please know: there's nothing you have to do. If you'd rather just sit with your best friend until I get there, that's perfectly okay. But if having a few simple things to do would help, here's how to keep them comfortable and dignified in the meantime.
-
Bring them indoors. If your pet is outside, gently move them into the house, out of the heat and away from the sun.
-
Wrap them in a favorite blanket or towel. It keeps them clean and comfortable, and for a lot of families the act of tucking them in brings a little peace, too.
-
Keep them in a cool spot. A cooler room, a tiled floor, or shade indoors all help. The less heat, the better.
A few practical things that make this easier, if you want them:
-
Placing your best friend in a bathtub is a simple, tidy and out of the way place to rest them — cool, easy to clean, and out of the way.
-
A blanket or towel underneath, or a plastic liner, helps keep things neat if there's any fluid, which is completely normal and nothing to worry about.
-
If your pet is small and it may be a while before we connect, it's okay to place them somewhere cold — even a freezer, just not for an extended time. It simply helps until I can get there.
And if none of this feels manageable right now, don't worry about any of it. Just call me, and I'll talk you through whatever you need.
